Art Valley: The Marketplaces of Art
Florence, Italy November 17-18, 2000
|
I was lucky enough to be invited to attend and to speak at the recent Art Valley: The Marketplaces of Art conference in Florence, Italy.
It was quite an event - a reception at the excellent rooftop restaurant of the Bagliano Hotel, a kickoff at the historic Palazzo Vecchio, and so many speakers from the fine art and high tech industries that many couldn't talk for as long as intended (including me, unfortunately). Most of the participants were from Italy, so the simultaneous translation proved invaluable.
I was invited to speak as part of the section on Digital Art: Methods and Business Models.

Note that there will be at least two more Art Valley conferences in 2001. Click on the banner above for more information.
I'd like to especially thank Alberto Cavicchiolo of the Banca Virtuale Europea International Institute for Interchange on Ciphermatics and Virtual Issues, who was the tireless promoter of the conference, for providing me with the opportunity to attend.
The hospitality of Daniel Vernon de Mars, of assoXinternet, was also very much appreciated.
I'd also like to say "Hello" again to everyone I met at the conference, and express the hope that we will meet again. I can't list everyone, but here is a partial list of people I was able to speak with:
- Sergio Azcona, President, Hispanart.com
- Antoine Beaussant, President, nart.com
- Francesca Bruni, BVE Institute
- Andrea Ceccarelli, Assessore, City of Florence
- Mark Getty, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman, Getty Images
- Peter deCourcy Hero, President, Community Foundation Silicon Valley
- Emil Kren, creator of the Web Gallery of Art
- Filippo Lotti, Managing Director, Sothebys
... John Malyon
