The Triumph of Napoleon in 1810

Frieze decorating l'Arc de Triomphe, Paris

The Arc de Triomphe, completed in 1836, was erected by Napoleon to proclaim
the glory of France. Its columns contain four enormous sculptural groups on
different themes. The four sculptures are:
• The Departure of the Volunteers of '92 ("La Marseillaise") by François Rude
• The Triumph of Napoleon in 1810 by Jean-Pierre Cortot
• Resistance (La Résistance de 1814) by Antoine Etex
• Peace (La Paix de 1815) by Antoine Etex
