Chasseriau was a kind of hybrid who studied for years under the supremely graceful Ingres before developing a passion for the exotic Romanticicm of Delacroix. Sadly, he passed away at the age of just 37 - of "fatigue" according to one source, although that doesn't sound like a very modern diagnosis.
