The National Galleries of Scotland have finally put on a collection of first-rate scans of their first-rate collection. They claim 1118 works online, but my initial analysis shows 707 different artists and a total of 1140 works illustrated. Whatever, it's a good start.

Some detailed scans (like this one) are quite large, others are not. What they have apparently done is limit the width of the largest scans to 750 pixels or so -- presumably so as not to cause side-scrolling at 800 x 600 resolution. But they're much more flexible with the height. Therefore landscape-format works tend to have smaller scans, while portrait-format works can have quite large scans.

This is a meta-site encompassing works from the Scottish national collection, on display at a variety of museums around Scotland. This particular painting is probably exhibited at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, but I can't figure out how to determine that from the website.
