Both were students of Pieter Lastman. This is an audacious self(?) portrait, done in a manner which is clearly very similar to Rembrandt's. The painting is absolutely superb. In my opinion, the only thing that detracts from it is that the face is too young and too lacking in gravitas to support the grandeur of the scene.
