This statue is one of four that tower above Pont Alexandre III, said to be the most beautiful bridge in Paris. The bridge was named after the former Tsar of Russia, in honor of the newly negotiated Franco-Russian alliance - one in a complex set of treaties that interwove European powers during the runup to World War I.
I took this incredible picture on a sparkling day from about 150 feet away (with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ3 digital camera, which has a 12X optical zoom). If I had known it would turn out this well, I would have spent a while fully documenting the other statues overlooking and decorating the sides of the bridge.
