I haven't seen this painting in person but I have seen a very good printed reproduction of it, and it's stunning. One of my favorite paintings.

The MFA scan is of fairly high quality and it's good to see that they have included it in their online collection. The one thing I would say is that, as I recall, the scan doesn't completely capture the differences in lighting and vividness between the interior of the porch and the far side of the screening. That contrast is one of the keys to this great painting.

"Nanny" is Prior's wife, the artist Nanny Vonnegut (daughter of novelist Kurt Vonnegut).
