This piece feels somewhat atypical of Renoir. It's true that his Impressionist style is rooted in plein air (open air) painting, and he did paint many landscapes during his career; nonetheless he is much better known for his portraits and for his figurative works such as Luncheon of the Boating Party and Dejeuner sur l'herbe.
