Switzerland's Kunstmuseum Basel is featuring shows by three contemporary artists: Rodney Graham (Canadian, born 1949), Rosemarie Trockel (German, born 1952) and Gabriel Orozco (Mexican, born 1962).

Rodney Graham: Through the Forest

June 13 - September 26, 2010

"Rodney Graham's use of appropriation allows him to pay tribute to some important artists, writers, philosophers and pop musicians, though not without respectfully and ironically demystifying their undoubtedly substantial influence and offering us a new take on the worlds they describe. Sigmund Freud, Donald Judd, Edgar Allan Poe, Georg Büchner, Jeff Wall, Pablo Picasso – they all figure in Rodney Graham’s work as material or conceptual reference."

Rosemarie Trockel: Drawings

May 30 - September 5, 2010

"Portraits of monkeys, representations of sleeping male youths, the use of unusual techniques like photocopying and making collages out of early drawings – these are all devices that feed into the artist’s ironic take on social conventions and artistic norms, and, in fact, on the traditional notion of the drawing as such."

Gabriel Orozco

April 18 - August 8, 2010

"[Orozco's] nomadic way of life typical of his generation and the principle of constant movement surface in his work in many different ways, ranging from the photograph of his breath on a piano to a Citroën DS that has been sliced lengthwise down the middle and reassembled as a one seater."
