• Relationships: Lived with Gabriele Munter for a decade until he returned to Russia on the outbreak of World War I.
Associated with the Bauhaus School in Weimar, Germany.
Founding member of Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider), a Munich group of Expressionist painters.
Member of the Abstraction-Creation Group in Paris, 1930s.
