Dali had considerable technical skill and, going against the grain of 20th century art, applied his skill like a craftsman. In a manner of speaking, you could say that he was a Realist painter whose favorite subject was his own mad dream and fantasy world.
Woman at the Window is a relatively conventional painting from early in his career. It's part of an exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, running through May 15. See related article.
